Programs

This course is designed for children to learn the danso, a traditional Korean wind instrument, while experiencing Korean traditional culture and music in an easy and enjoyable way. Students will learn basic playing techniques, including fingering for the instrument’s five-note scale, proper breathing, and sound production. They will also explore traditional children’s songs, folk songs, and modern children’s songs, gaining a natural understanding of the stories behind the music, traditional Korean rhythmic patterns, and Korean cultural traditions.

The danso is an accessible instrument that allows children to build confidence in their musical abilities and participate with enjoyment. Classes will include a variety of interactive activities, such as following playing demonstrations, singing, rhythm exercises, ensemble performances, music appreciation, and stories about Korean traditional culture. Through learning to play the danso, students will develop musical expression and teamwork while deepening their familiarity with and understanding of Korean culture.
